Queer History at Historic Center Landmarks & Gay Bar Row

In this part, Part 2 of 4 of the Gay History experience, you’ll learn about our LGBT history at the 16th century city’s edges in the Historic Center.

We will be at the only openly LGBT monument in town & at the subway’s gayest station. At Spain’s gay poet García-Lorca’s bust we will learn of his frustrated visit, of crimes against humanity & of a Mexican diplomat who saved thousands from the Nazis.

We will go to the Spanish Inquisition’s burning grounds for sodomites & to the place where drugs were introduced into the LGBT community & discover the life of an American gay writer in an old cantina.

Along the way, you will see our top LGBT symbol, stroll by the site of Latin America’s 1st equal marriage & the Old Asylum, where lesbians were locked-up along the mentally ill, centuries ago.

The biggest present of the gay community for the city will line the way as we visit the famous “meeting point” & the “postal cruising grounds” across from the Museum of Art, where you will hear of a gay man in space.

“Drag Queens’ Paradise” & the LGBT-driven founding of the Human Rights Commission will mark the entrance to “Gay Bar Row” where a couple of dozen bars thrive & set trends.

After guiding you to these & more surprises we will show you the way to the main cruising street, around which, Part 3 revolves, booked separately.
